2004年，在韩国中区寺草洞一个宁静而落后的社区，接连发生五起猎奇杀人事件。死者全部为女性，生前无一例外遭到残酷折磨，死后更被凶手固定在户外呈现十字架受难的模样。专案组组长在新（李善均 饰）受命调查此案，却始终没有任何头绪，加上来自上层的压力，令他备为苦恼。在新有个好朋友名叫景柱（吴满锡 饰），是一个穷困潦倒的推理作家。他以寻找素材的名义从在新那里了解到常人无法接触的卷宗资料，却直觉发现这是一宗模仿杀人连环案件。在新也从前辈那里了解到十年前发生过的手法类似的一起沉疴旧案。 一切都指向景柱和在新的过去，血腥恐怖的迷雾背后，究竟隐藏着怎样可怕的秘密和事实真相呢？
